Dahi chana chaat is an easy and delicious chaat recipe in which chickpea, potatoes, onions, tomatoes and cucumber are dressed in yogurt and generously drizzled with green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney.

Chaat is one of the most loved road side snack of India which is sour, spicy and sweet at the same time. They are also popular in Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. You can find many people selling chaat and other snacks on a food stalls or carts in India. People go nuts over chaat and probably have it once in every week. Most of the Indian women get a strong craving of having chaat and pani puri (other famous street food of India ) especially when they are pregnant.
There are so many variety of chaat available and sometimes it becomes so confusing when you have to choose one out of so many choices. Aloo tikki chaat, samosa chaat, Delhi chaat, papdi chaat, dahi chana chaat , dahi chaat and matar chaat are some of the very popular chaat available in India .
Normally me and my husband do not eat food from outside on weekdays i.e only home cooked meals are preferred. But one day, I was craving so bad for chaat but didn’t want to eat it from shops or stalls.  So I thought of making chaat at home. So here I am presenting a chaat recipe which is easy to make and tasty to eat. The best part of dahi chana chaat is, it is much healthier than other chaat recipes. You can of course adjust any ingredients of dahi chana chaat according to your liking. In this recipe of dahi chana chaat, chickpeas are mixed with boiled potatoes, finely chopped onions, tomatoes, marinated ginger and dressed with creamy yogurt, date-tamarind chutney and green chutney and finally topped with sev.

Dahi chana chaat is an easy and delicious chaat recipe in which chickpea, potatoes, onions, tomatoes and cucumber are dressed in yogurt and generously drizzled with green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of boiled chickpea or garbanzo beans

  • 3 medium medium potatoes, boiled

  • 1 cup of thick yogurt

  • 3/4 tsp of roasted cumin powder

  • 1 tsp of chaat masala

  • 1/2 tsp of black rock salt

  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper

  • 2 Tbsp of finely chopped cilantro or coriander leaves

  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped

  • 1 Tbsp of finely chopped mint leaves

  • 3 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 1 large or 2 small cucumber, finely chopped

  • Salt to taste

  • Marinate (optional)  :-
  • 1 inch ginger, peeled and julienned

  • 1/2 tsp of lemon juice

  • Pinch of Salt

  • For Servings:-
  • Green Chutney to taste

  • Tamarind Chutney to taste

  • Sev as required

Directions

  • Marinate julienne ginger in lemon juice and salt for 20 minutes. Ginger is optional. so omit, if you do not want.
  • In a big bowl, add chickpea, potatoes, onion, tomatoes, mint, cilantro, cucumber, cumin, black salt, chaat masala , pepper, salt, yogurt, marinated ginger and mix well.
  • Now during serving, take a portion of chickpea mixture in a bowl and add date- tamarind chutney, green chutney and topped with sev.  
  • Serve dahi chana chaat immediately, to prevent Sev from getting soggy.

Notes

  • Adjust chutneys and any ingredient according to your desired choice. Ginger is optional but it is recommended for those who have bloating problems.
