This is basic chicken curry recipe frequently prepared in pretty much every non vegetarian house in India. Chicken cooked with onion-garlic-ginger-tomato gravy and spiced up with garam masala.

A very common chicken curry recipe in which chicken is cooked in onion tomato gravy fully loaded with special blend of Indian spices.

Ingredients

  • Marination :-
  • 1.5 kg / 3 lb of skinless, bone-in chicken, cut into pieces

  • 1/2 cup of yogurt

  • 1/2 of lemon

  • 1 tsp of chili powder

  • 3/4 tsp of turmeric powder

  • Little salt

  • For Gravy :-
  • 1 tsp of mustard seeds

  • 2 big onions, finely chopped

  • 8-10 garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • 1 inch of ginger, finely chopped

  • 3 green chilies , chopped

  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 Tbsp of coriander powder

  • 1 Tbsp of chicken masala powder

  • Red chili powder to taste

  • Few cilantro leaves chopped

  • 1-2 Tbsp of oil

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • Marinate chicken with lemon juice, yogurt, chili powder, turmeric and salt for at least an hour or overnight.
  • Now in a hot pan add oil, splutter mustard seeds, then add onions, chilies and salt.
  • When the onions are translucent, add ginger and garlic and stir for 5-6 min. Now add dry spices and stir for few minutes.
  • Then add tomatoes and let it cook until it releases oil. Now add chicken with its marination and put on the lid and let it cook for 40 minutes.
  • When chicken is done and simmer it for 5 min. Add cilantro leaves and chicken curry is done.
