Mint Coriander Chutney / Green Chutney for Chaat

Mint coriander chutney is a bright green colored chutney which is very common and easy condiment of India. The other names of mint coriander chutney is green chutney and hari chutney. Cilantro, mint, ginger, cumin and lemon juice are ground together to form this beautiful thick spread.

This green chutney has a very fresh and spicy flavors and often drizzled over chaat , sev puri, ragda pattis, papdi chaat and other street food. It is also used as a spread for sandwich or dipping sauce for samosa and pakoras. So mint coriander chutney is like a wonder condiment which goes with many things and have so many purpose. A spoonful of this aromatic green chutney can make any boring and average dish so fresh and good.
If you want to choose low fat or healthy spread for sandwiches or burgers or wraps, then this mint coriander chutney or green chutney is just perfect. As it has healthy goodness of coriander and mint plus it is very low in calorie.

Green chutney is a quick chutney made with mint and coriander or cilantro leaves often used over chaat and samosas.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of coriander leaves or cilantro

  • 3/4 cup of mint leaves

  • 1/2 inch of ginger, peeled

  • 1 Tbsp of lemon juice

  • 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds

  • 2-3 green chilies or to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/2 tsp of sugar

  • little water for grinding

Directions

  • Put all of the ingredients in a blender and grind into fine paste . The consistency should be like pesto and mint coriander chutney is done.
  • Serve mint coriander chutney or green chutney with chaat, sandwiches, samosa or sev puri.

Notes

  • It will stay fresh in refrigerator for about 5 days to week .
  • Green chutney can also be frozen for a month. Just store small amount of green chutney in a small zip lock packs and freeze it. If you once thawed it, then do not freeze again.
