Tomato Chutney

Tomato chutney is a very simple and basic tomato chutney recipe in which red tomatoes are cooked with onion, garlic and seasoned with mustard and fennel seeds. Fresh red tomatoes are the best choice for making this tomato chutney looks bright red in color. Tomato chutney is perfect with roti or paratha and also as a spread for sandwich.

This tomato chutney is a quick and yummy recipe made with fresh tomatoes and just right amount of Indian spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium red onion, chopped finely

  • 5 big garlic cloves, chopped

  • 3/4 tsp of red chilly powder

  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds

  • 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds

  • 2 tsp of sugar

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 Tbsp of cilantro, chopped

Directions

  • Heat oil in a pan, then splutter mustard seeds and add fennel seeds. After 15 secs add onion and mix .
  • When onions are translucent add garlic, turmeric, chilly, salt and tomatoes and let it cook until the tomatoes are super tender ,mash-able and thick.
  • Lastly add sugar and cilantro. Mix well and tomato chutney is done. Serve with Carrot paratha or Avocado paratha .

Notes

  • This tomato chutney can be refrigerated for a week in a air tight container.
