Rosemary dinner roll

The Goodness of whole wheat flour with lemony rosemary makes this dinner roll extra special.

Yield :- 8 rolls

Ingredients :-

  • 3 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 of yoghurt + 1/4 cup of water
  • 2.5 tsp of instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup of warm water
  • 3 Tbsp of oil
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1-2 TB of honey or agave nectar
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp of dried rosemary
  • 2 Tbsp of wheat germ
  • Little milk for brushing
  • Oil for greasing

Method :-

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Mix Yeast in 3/4 cup of warm water with honey and let it stand for 10 min.

2. Then in a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients except milk and knead until the dough become smooth and supple. Adjust its consistency with additional water or flour, if necessary.

3. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover it with damp kitchen towel, and allow the dough to rise till puffy almost doubled,about 1 to 2 hours, depending on the warmth of your kitchen.

4. Now, punch down the dough and knead it little and divide it into 8 pieces.Shape each piece into a roll or bun.

5. Grease the baking tray with little oil and sprinkled it with cornmeal or semolina and put the rolls on it.Cover the pan loosely with damp towel and allow it to rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6. Brush the rolls with milk and bake it for 20-25 minutes.

7. Remove the rolls from the oven, and place it onto a rack to cool. If desired, rub the crust with little butter, this will yield a soft, flavorful crust.Store it in a plastic bag at room temperature.

  • These rolls are good for breakfast or as a dinner rolls. It goes well with peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese or any spread you like. It is great to dunking in warm stews or chilli.
  • You can add any herbs you like. Lemon or orange rind will be good too.
  • Rolls will be good for 4-5 days in a room temperature and if you want to keep it longer then, refrigerate it.
