Tomato pulao recipe

Tomato pulao is a rice based dish in which rice is cooked in freshly made tomato sauce. Tomato adds nice color and tang to this pulao. The best part of tomato pulao is that it requires all the basic ingredients like tomatoes, rice, onion, tumeric and peanuts which must be lying around your kitchen. 
Tomato is considered to be a food that goes beyond the basic nutritional value as it has phytochemical called lycopene. Tomato is also a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid and many antioxidants.
So grab the tomatoes and try this version of tomato pulao and tell me how it came out.

Yield :- 4-6 servings
Ingredients for tomato pulao :-

  • 3 plum tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 3-4 big garlic chopped
  • Handful of peanuts
  • Red chilly to taste
  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1 Tbsp of chopped cilantro or basil
  • 1-1/2 cup of basmati rice
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 Tbsp of oil
  • Salt to taste

Method for tomato pulao:-

1. Wash the rice and soak it for about 1 hour.

2. In a hot oil, add cumin seeds and peanuts. When the seeds sizzles, add onions and saute it until it becomes translucent.

3. Now add turmeric, chilly powder, garlic and tomatoes and cook it till the tomatoes releases oil.

4. Then add rice and saute it for about 2 minutes. Now mix in the water and put the lid on and cook the rice at medium heat until all the liquid is absorbed.

5. Garnish it with cilantro and tomato pulao is done.
