Gobi Capsicum Sabji / Gobi Simla Mirch sabji / Cauliflower with Green Bell Peppers

Cauliflower and green bell pepper really compliment each other in this recipe. Gobi capsicum is an Indian dry sabji recipe in which cauliflower and capsicum is stir fried until golden perfection, coated with coriander, red chilly, turmeric and mango powder and seasoned with mustard and cumin seeds. Gobi capsicum is a perfect side dish when you have get together and the guest are vegan or vegetarian.

Gobi Capsicum Sabji is a mixed vegetable curry made with cauliflower florets, peas and green bell pepper.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets

  • 1 medium green bell pepper / capsicum, sliced

  • 1 big sliced onion

  • 1/4 cup of green peas

  • 2 Tbsp of finely chopped ginger

  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds

  • 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds

  • 1 tsp of mustard seeds

  • 2 tsp of coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric

  • 1 tsp of red chilli powder

  • 1/2 tsp of mango powder

  • Few chopped cilantro leaves

  • Fresh lemon juice

  • salt to taste

  • 2-3 Tbsp of oil

Directions

  • Blanch cauliflower for 4-5 minutes or put florets in a microwave safe bowl and sprinkle 1 Tbsp of water and little salt in it and microwave it for 4-5 minutes, tossing in between.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add cumin and fennel seeds, when it sizzles, toss in the ginger, stir for 30 sec and mix onion and salt.
  • When onion are translucent, add dry spices and capsicum and fry for 1 minutes.
  • Add peas and cauliflower to the mixture and mix well. Put on the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes and then take off the lid and cook again for 2 minutes, stirring in between until cauliflower is tender.
  • Turn off the flame and add cilantro and lemon juice to the cauliflower and gobi capsicum is ready to serve.

Notes

  • Serve Gobi Capsicum Sabji warm with parathas or pulav or jeera rice.
  • If don’t want to blanch or microwave, then just cook the cauliflower with onion mixture for about 15 minutes.
