Fish Stew Recipe / Fish Stew with Coconut Milk

The goodness of a variety of vegetables and fish together with creamy coconut milk and some Indian spices makes this fish stew irresistible.

Sea fishes like mackerel, trout,  salmon, tuna, herrings are very good source of healthy fish oils called omega 3 fatty acids. Our body cannot create omega 3 fatty acids by itself, so oily fish is an easy way to get this nutrient. Fishes are also a good source of Vitamin B12, phosphorus and selenium.

Yummy fish stew recipe in which fish pieces is cooked with broccoli, bell pepper, corn, onion, potatoes and some spice in coconut milk.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of fish (Haddock)

  • 2 medium diced potatoes

  • 1-1/2 cups of corn kernel

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced small

  • 1 cup of broccoli florets (optional)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped fine

  • 1 TB of minced ginger

  • 4-5 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 cup of coconut milk

  • 2 cups of seafood or chicken stock

  • Few green chilies

  • 1 tsp Red chilly powder

  • 1 tsp of coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp of garam masala

  • 1/2 of lemon

  • Few sprigs of cilantro

Directions

  • Marinate fish pieces in half of turmeric, red chilly, salt and lemon juice.
  • Heat little oil in a pan, add ginger stir it for half a min, then add onion, garlic, curry leaves and chillies.
  • When onions are done add turmeric, red chilly, coriander and salt. stir it for few min, then add potatoes, corn and a little water and put the lid on and let the potato cook for few min.
  • When potatoes are done, add coconut milk, broccoli and red bell pepper.When it comes to boil, add marinated fish and simmer it for few min until the fish pieces are nicely cooked and add garam masala and cilantro. Fish stew is done.

Notes

  • Serve fish stew hot with any bread you like.
  • Fish stew also goes well with Soba noodles too.
  • Add any vegetable of your choice or use shrimp instead of fish.
