Green moong dal with cauliflower is a light and healthy recipe in which cauliflower is cooked in moong dal sauce with some regular Indian spices.  Gobi moong dal is a no fuss recipe and pretty easy to make. This moong dal with cauliflower recipe came to me when I was very tired and didn’t want to make dal tadka (lentil curry) and vegetable curry separately, as it will likely take more time and more utensils to wash. So, the best part or may be the lazy part of this gobi moong dal is it is a two in one dish. Yes…. This recipe combines green moong dal with cauliflower, so no need of making dal and sabji separately. Just make this curry with roti or rice and you are done.

Green moong dal with cauliflower is a healthy and yummy lentil recipe in which cauliflower and green mung beans are cooked together with some Inidan spices.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup of whole green moong dal, soaked for minimum 4 hours or overnight

  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into medium size florets

  • 3 medium onions, chopped fine

  • 2-3 green chillies or to taste

  • 1 tsp of coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp of cumin powder

  • 1 tsp of garam masala or curry powder

  • 1/2 tsp of tumeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds

  • 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds

  • 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 Tbsp of oil

Directions

  • Cook moong dal in 2 cups of water with turmeric, green chilies and salt until it is soft and mushy.
  • In a pan, heat oil, crackle mustard and fennel seeds, then add onions. Saute till the onions are light brown.
  • Now add all the dry spices and saute for 30 seconds.
  • Add the cauliflower with desired salt and pepper. Mix well and let it cook for 5 minutes. Sprinkle little water if needed.
  • Now add cooked moong dal with 1/2 to 1 cup of water and let the cauliflower cook until tender.
  • At last sprinkle cilantro and lemon juice and switch off the heat.
  • Green moong dal with cauliflower or gobi mung dal is done. . Serve warm with chapati or rice.
